In any community, the ideas and efforts of its members are crucial for growth and development. The Aleo Network Foundation, dedicated to decentralization and transparency, has developed the Aleo Governance Platform. This platform empowers community members to share their ideas, vote on Aleo Request for Comments (ARCs), and enhance the network. Let’s dive deeper into what this platform is and how it functions.

What is the Aleo Governance Platform?

The Aleo Governance Platform is a space where proposals and decisions about the Aleo blockchain and community are made. It allows users to submit ARCs, which are protocol-level, network-level, and application-level standards for the Aleo ecosystem. These proposals and decisions can cover various aspects of the network, from technical improvements to changes in community governance.

Introducing Aleo Governors

To streamline the governance process, we have introduced a new role in our Ambassador Program: the Governor. Governors play a key role in the governance process by reviewing all ideas and proposals to ensure they comply with Aleo’s Community Rules and Guidelines, actively supporting proposals, and moderating all channels under the Governance category.

Key Responsibilities of Governors:

  • Ensuring proposals adhere to community rules and guidelines.
  • Supporting and helping refine proposals.
  • Moderating all governance-related channels.

How Can You Get Involved?

Every community member can participate in governance discussions on the Aleo platform, regardless of their role. To do so, join the Governance category on the Aleo Discord server.

Main Channels under the Governance Category:

  • Loose Thoughts — These are ideas that might eventually become ARCs but are not fully developed yet. All Aleo Ambassadors (Maestros, Voyagers, Apprentices, and DevRel) can create loose thoughts on Discord. These ideas are managed by Governors, who after discussion, can either close the discussion or promote the idea to an official ARC.
  • Proposals — This channel is for more formal proposals, which undergo a strict quality check. Members of the Aleo Team, Governors (elected by the community), and Aleo Grantees can submit ARCs. ARCs are used to propose new features and functionalities according to predefined guidelines.

How to Create a New Idea or Proposal?

Creating a New Idea (Loose Thought):

  1. Go to the 💭┃loose-thoughts channel on Discord.
  2. Click “Create Thread”.
  3. Enter a thread name.
  4. Click “Submit”.

Creating a New Proposal (ARC Proposal):

  1. Visit the Aleo Governance site.
  2. Connect your Discord and wallet.
  3. Click “+ New Proposal”.
  4. Describe the new proposal based on the given instructions.
  5. Click “Submit” or “Save Draft” to save it for later.

The proposal author sets the voting period and options, which can be customized based on each proposal’s characteristics. After submitting the new proposal, a discussion with the same ARC number and name will automatically be created on Discord in the Proposals channel.

The Importance of Community Participation

We are excited to expand the Aleo Network’s governance as we move towards a more decentralized process for network improvements. It’s important to understand that we can’t achieve our goals without community participation. We encourage everyone to join the discussions on Discord and contribute to the development of Aleo.

Conclusion

The launch of the Aleo Community Governance Hub is a significant step towards decentralization and improvement of the Aleo ecosystem. Through this platform, every community member has the opportunity to participate in decision-making, propose ideas, and vote on changes. We believe that together we can create a sustainable and progressive network that meets the interests of all its participants. Join us on the path to decentralization and contribute to the future of Aleo!
